How to log coffee, tea, and caffeine in Frewli

Record the volume you finished and the caffeine amount separately. Choose the preparation first, check its editable estimate, and keep an unknown dose visibly unknown.

The quick version

Open Today > Other drink and select Coffee or Tea. For coffee, choose Coffee preparation before correcting Volume. Open Caffeine and sodium (optional), review the total caffeine for that drink and its source, then check Time and tap Add drink.

These steps match Frewli 1.1.1, checked October 19, 2026. Find the current release on the App Store. This guide explains the record, not a recommended caffeine intake.

1. Choose the preparation before the volume

In Other drink, use Drink type to choose Coffee or Tea. Coffee offers Espresso, Filter coffee, and Decaf coffee under Coffee preparation. Saved or existing recipes can also show Recorded recipe.

Choosing a preparation can reset the form's Volume and caffeine estimate. Select it first, then enter the actual volume you finished and review the dose. The container's capacity is not necessarily the amount consumed.

For Espresso, Espresso reference servings adjusts the app's caffeine estimate. You still need to check Volume separately; the stepper is not measuring your drink.

2. Treat presets as editable app references

Starting values in a new Frewli form
SelectionInitial volumeCaffeine field
Espresso, one reference serving60 ml80 mg · Estimate
Filter coffee200 ml90 mg · Estimate
Tea220 ml50 mg · Estimate
Decaf coffee200 mlBlank · Unknown

These are software starting values, not measured amounts for your cup or suggested portions. Check the actual product or recipe and edit them when needed. Selecting Decaf coffee clears the caffeine field; it does not enter a known zero.

3. Record the dose and its source honestly

Expand Caffeine and sodium (optional). Caffeine in this drink expects the total milligrams in the drink you are recording, not a value per 100 ml.

  • Estimate: keep this source when retaining an app reference estimate.
  • From label: enter the appropriate total from the product label, then choose From label under Caffeine source.
  • Entered by you: typing a value selects this source. Keep it when that describes how you supplied the amount.

If the amount is unknown, clear the field so it shows Unknown. Blank means not entered; zero is a recorded numerical value. Do not use zero just to make a missing amount disappear.

4. Keep drink volume separate from caffeine

Changing coffee or tea Volume alone does not scale its caffeine field. The same rule applies when you select a saved coffee or tea favorite and change its portion.

For a recording example, suppose you know a recipe uses 75 mg caffeine. A version containing the same coffee dose plus more water or milk might finish at 300 ml instead of 200 ml. Record the actual finished volume and the known 75 mg dose separately. Do not multiply caffeine by the volume change merely because the cup is larger.

If you changed the coffee or tea dose itself, review the caffeine amount again. The example assumes the same known dose; it is not an estimate for an unspecified coffee.

5. Save once, then check what the record means

Review Volume, caffeine, source, and Time before tapping Add drink. A new form starts with the time it was opened. Add only a drink you actually consumed.

For a later correction, use Today's drink history > Edit drink on the original entry. The drink-history guide explains the full route without creating a duplicate.

In You > Your progress, Caffeine from logged drinks adds the caffeine values saved in your current-day log, including estimates, and flags drinks with missing caffeine amounts. It does not represent all dietary caffeine or a measured total.

In Frewli's accounting, the drink volume contributes to Logged fluids. Caffeine is recorded separately; it does not add a fluid penalty to the goal. This describes the app's record, not your body's hydration or caffeine absorption.
